INTRODUCTION

Barb lives in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, a city that has a number of excellent galleries and a thriving art scene.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Barb Lougheed is an Ottawa-based abstract artist, working in oil on canvas and pastels on paper. Barb’s process is intuitive, necessitating painting out and adding shapes, reweighting the composition, working to balance colours, tones and movements. She starts by creating with complexity, bordering on chaos, and then edits to create breathing room and a way to negotiate through the intensity, an apt metaphor for how we make our way through the world.
